Freitag F41 Hawaii Five-O

The F41 is a Freitag messenger bag made from a used truck tarpaulin, with a car seat-belt strap and a bicycle inner-tube edge. Retired tarpaulins are bought across Europe and taken to Freitag's Zurich-Oerlikon headquarters, where they are dismantled, washed and cut, so every bag carries a different section of print. The cut parts are then sewn by long-standing production partners in Portugal, the Czech Republic and Bulgaria, and the finished bags come back to Zurich for quality control. Freitag publishes a dated list of those partners with their towns, headcounts and the steps they carry out.
